Bedford County’s Coyote Lottery program was featured in late December 2013 on WSLS News (watch HERE). The program incentivizes hunters and trappers to help mange the growing threat of the coyotes on the county’s livestock by checking in carcasses to be counted at Southern States in Bedford through March 14, 2014. Participants receive one entry in several cash drawings for each dead animal they bring in to be counted. According to Bedford County Agricultural Economic Development Advisory Board Chairman Jeff Powers, more than 50 coyotes have been counted in the program so far this year and he expects that number to grow leading up to the deadline.
